StereoCrafter, an innovative framework jointly developed by Tencent AI Lab and ARC Lab, can convert monocular videos (2D videos) into stereoscopic 3D videos, meeting the growing demand for 3D content. StereoCrafter achieves high-fidelity 2D-to-3D video conversion based on three core steps: depth estimation, video splatting, and stereoscopic video inpainting. Using a pre-trained stable video diffusion model as its foundation, StereoCrafter is fine-tuned for stereoscopic video inpainting tasks, adapting to video inputs of different lengths and resolutions. The development of StereoCrafter enhances the immersive experience of video content and provides new possibilities for the future development of digital media.

StereoCrafter's technical principles
- Depth estimation: Extract depth maps from input monocular videos based on advanced depth estimation models (such as DepthCrafter).
- video splattingBased on the depth map, the left-view video is transformed into the right-view video to generate an occlusion mask and handle occlusion in the video.
- 3D video restorationUsing the generated occlusion mask, the missing areas in the deformed video are filled in based on stereoscopic video restoration technology to generate the final right-view video.
