What is Project Mariner?

Project Mariner is a browser assistant developed by Google DeepMind. Based on Gemini 2.0 technology, Project Mariner uses a Chrome extension to automate browser operations, understanding and executing web page tasks. It can understand and reason about information on the browser screen, including pixels and web page elements, and use this information to complete tasks via the Chrome extension. Project Mariner can control the Chrome browser, move the cursor on the screen, click buttons, and fill out forms, using and browsing websites like a human. Project Mariner achieved a high score of 83.5% in the WebVoyager benchmark. Currently, Project Mariner can only perform typing, scrolling, and clicking operations within the browser's active tab, and requires final confirmation from the user before performing certain sensitive operations (such as purchasing items).
