What is MVPaint?
MVPaint is a 3D texture generation framework jointly developed by Tencent PCG, Shanghai AI Lab, Nanyang Technological University S-Lab, and Tsinghua University. It achieves high-resolution, seamless, and consistent 3D texture generation across multiple views based on synchronous multi-view diffusion technology. MVPaint comprises three core modules: Synchronous Multi-View Generation (SMG) for texture initialization, Spatial Aware 3D Inpaint (S3I) for filling unobserved areas, and UV Refinement (UVR) for improving UV space texture quality. MVPaint significantly enhances the texture generation effect of 3D models, reducing local discontinuities and inconsistencies across multiple views.
MVPaint's main functions
- Synchronous multi-view generation:Simultaneously generating images from multiple perspectives provides preliminary textures for the 3D model.
- Spatial Awareness 3D Repair: Specifically designed to texturize areas not observed during multi-view generation, ensuring complete texture coverage of the 3D model.
- UV Refinement (UVR)This includes super-resolution processing in UV space and a spatially-aware stitching smoothing algorithm, which improves texture quality after UV unwrapping and corrects discontinuities caused by UV unwrapping.
- Multi-view consistencyMVPaint emphasizes maintaining consistent textures across different viewpoints, reducing inconsistencies caused by changes in viewpoint.
- High-resolution texture generationGenerate high-resolution and seamless textures to enhance the visual quality of 3D models.
MVPaint's technical principles
- Control-based T2MV ModelGenerating multi-view images from text descriptions using a control basis model is part of Simultaneous Multi-View Generation (SMG).
- Image-to-Image Model (I2I)Along with the control base multi-view model, the I2I model is used for the initialization of 3D textures.
- 3D point cloud repairIn UV space, filling unobserved areas based on 3D point cloud inpainting technology is the core of spatially perceived 3D inpainting (S3I).
- UV Space Super-ResolutionIn the UVR module, super-resolution processing is performed on the UV map to increase texture detail.
- Spatial perception stitching smoothIn UV space, MVPaint detects seams and applies a 3D-perceptual smoothing algorithm to correct texture discontinuities caused by UV unwrapping.
- Maintaining consistency across multiple perspectivesThroughout the texture generation process, MVPaint ensures texture consistency across different viewpoints by using synchronous multi-view generation and subsequent processing steps.
