What is k0-math?
k0-math is the latest generation mathematical reasoning model released by Kimi, a subsidiary of Moonlit Dark Side. The model performs exceptionally well in multiple mathematical benchmark tests, demonstrating mathematical capabilities comparable to OpenAI's globally leading o1 series models, and benchmarking against the publicly available o1-mini and o1-preview models. In four different levels of mathematical benchmark tests—middle school entrance exams, college entrance exams, postgraduate entrance exams, and the MATH test containing introductory competition problems—k0-math outperformed o1-mini and o1-preview. In the more challenging OMNI-MATH and AIME competition-level mathematical problem sets, k0-math also achieved 90% and 83% of o1-mini's highest score, respectively.
The k0-math model employs reinforcement learning and thought chain reasoning techniques, significantly enhancing its mathematical reasoning ability by simulating human thinking and reflection processes. The model spends more time reasoning during problem-solving, including in-depth thinking and planning of solutions, and engages in self-reflection and improvement when necessary, thereby increasing the success rate of answering questions.
The main functions of k0-math
- Reinforcement learning technologyk0-math employs reinforcement learning and thought chain reasoning techniques, significantly enhancing the ability to solve mathematical problems by simulating the human brain's thinking and reflection processes.
- Mathematical benchmark performanceIn multiple benchmark math tests, k0-math performs on par with OpenAI's o1-mini and o1-preview models. In four benchmark math tests—the middle school entrance exam, the college entrance exam, the postgraduate entrance exam, and the MATH test which includes introductory competition questions—k0-math outperformed these two models.
- High-difficulty problem-solving abilityIn the industry-standard math ability benchmark test MATH, k0-math outperformed o1-mini and o1-preview. In the more challenging OMNI-MATH and AIME competition-level math problem sets, k0-math achieved 90% and 83% of the highest score in o1-mini, respectively.
- In-depth thinking and planningUnlike conventional models, k0-math spends more time on reasoning during problem-solving, including in-depth thinking and planning of problem-solving strategies, and self-reflection and improvement when necessary, thereby increasing the success rate of answering questions.
- Problem-solving inspirationThe problem-solving process of k0-math can sometimes inspire even math whizzes. Through continuous exploration and trial and error, complex mathematical problems can be solved.
- Limitations and continuous iterationk0-math excels at solving most challenging math problems, but may overthink over very simple ones. It still has a certain probability of making mistakes or guessing answers on difficult problems from the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) and the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). The k0-math model will continue to iterate, improving its ability to solve more difficult problems and its generalization capabilities.
How to use k0-math
- Coming soonIn the coming weeks, the k0-math model will be available on the Kimi web version and the Kimi Smart Assistant APP. Stay tuned.
