What is IC-Light?

IC-Light is an AI image lighting tool developed by Zhang Lvmin, the author of ControlNet. It can manipulate light sources and reconstruct shadows in images to achieve perfect integration with different backgrounds. Users only need to upload an image, select the direction of the light source, and enter a prompt word, and IC-Light will automatically cut out the image and generate a new image that blends the new light source with the background. The tool supports image relighting under both text and background conditions and is suitable for various scenarios, including daily photo editing and e-commerce product poster creation. It is currently open source, and the relevant models and code can be obtained through GitHub.

Main functions of IC-Light

  • Image relightingIC-Light can change the light source effect of an image, making the image blend more naturally with the new background or environment.
  • Text Conditional RelightingUsers can guide IC-Light to generate images with specific lighting effects by inputting descriptive text prompts, such as "light on the left" or "moonlight".
  • Background Conditions ModelIC-Light can also apply different lighting styles to foreground objects based on background image prompts, without requiring complex text descriptions.
  • Light source direction selectionUsers can specify the direction of the light source, such as shining from the left, right, or above, to create a more realistic lighting effect.
  • Automatic background removalIC-Light features an automatic background removal function, which can separate the subject from the background in an uploaded image and then adjust the lighting effects.
  • Stylistic fusionIC-Light supports blending images with backgrounds of different styles, such as cyberpunk and science fiction, increasing the creative possibilities for image editing.
  • Consistency GuaranteeBy ensuring consistency in the latent space, IC-Light guarantees a high degree of consistency in the lighting effects output by the model under different combinations of light sources.

How to use IC-Light

  1. Running GradoDownload the GitHub source code and run it locally, or visit the online version of Hugging Face's Grado Demo.
  2. Upload ImageUpload an image you want to edit. This image will serve as the foreground subject, and IC-Light will adjust the lighting effects based on it.
  3. Select the light source positionChoose the direction of the light source based on the lighting effect you want to achieve. IC-Light allows users to specify that the light source is shining from the left, right, top, or any other direction.
  4. Input prompt wordsFor text-based conditional relighting models, you need to input descriptive prompts such as "warm sunlight" or "dim lighting," which will guide IC-Light in generating the corresponding lighting effects.
  5. Choose a background (optional)If needed, you can select a background image, and IC-Light will blend the foreground image with the selected background to create new lighting and background effects.
  6. Adjust parametersDepending on your needs, you may need to adjust some additional parameters, such as the size of the light source, blur, or color, to achieve the best visual effect.
  7. Generate new imageAfter completing the above steps, IC-Light will automatically process the image and generate a new image that includes the lighting effects you specified.

Applications of IC-Light

  • Personal photo editingUsers can upload personal photos and use IC-Light to change the lighting effects, making the photos look more artistic or adapting to different background environments.
  • Professional post-production photographyPhotographers can use IC-Light to adjust the lighting of their photos to achieve better lighting effects and enhance the professional quality of their work.
  • E-commerce product displayE-commerce platforms can use IC-Light to blend product images with various backgrounds, creating more attractive product display effects.
  • Advertising and poster designDesigners can use IC-Light to quickly achieve the light and shadow effects in advertisements or posters, improving design efficiency and creative expression.
  • Simulates real-world ambient lightingIn the field of 3D modeling and rendering, IC-Light can be used to simulate real-world lighting conditions and enhance the realism of models.
