What is FineZip?
FineZip is a lossless text compression system based on Large Language Models (LLMs). It combines online memory and dynamic context size techniques to improve the speed and efficiency of text compression. Online memory refers to the efficient fine-tuning of model parameters before compression, improving data compressibility. Dynamic context size provides a variable context window for each token to be compressed, enabling parallel processing and accelerating the compression and decompression processes. Compared to the LLMZip system, FineZip achieves 54 times faster compression speed with only a slight performance loss. Furthermore, FineZip improves arithmetic coding methods, further enhancing compression efficiency.
FineZip's main functions
- Lossless text compressionFineZip's main function is lossless compression of text data, ensuring that the compressed data can be completely restored to its original state.
- Based on large language modelsThe system predicts the probability distribution of the next token in the text based on a large pre-trained language model, which is used to effectively compress the data.
- Fast compressionBased on optimization and technological innovation, FineZip significantly improves compression speed, making it much faster than traditional methods and earlier LLM-based compression methods.
- High compression ratioBased on advanced algorithms and model optimization, FineZip achieves a higher compression ratio than traditional compression tools.
- Dynamic context processingThe system dynamically adjusts the context size based on the position in the text to optimize the compression process.
- Batch compression capabilityIt supports parallel processing of multiple text batches, further improving compression efficiency.
FineZip's technical principles
- Online MemorizationBefore compression, FineZip uses parameter-efficient fine-tuning methods (such as LoRA) to memorize the model online, improving the model's familiarity with the specific dataset.
- Dynamic Context WindowThe context window size for each token is dynamically adjusted based on its position in the text, optimizing the compression efficiency of each token.
- Batch processing technologyBased on the parallel processing capabilities of LLMs, FineZip can process multiple data batches simultaneously, significantly improving compression speed.
- Arithmetic coding improvementThe probability distribution of arithmetic codes is updated based on the logits output of LLM, optimizing the encoding process and improving the compression ratio.
- Quantitative technologyReduce the computational precision of the model (e.g., use a 4-bit or 8-bit model instead of the traditional 32-bit model), reduce the computational resource requirements, and improve the compression speed.
