3DHM (3D Human Motions) is an advanced 3D human motion generation technology developed by researchers at the University of California, Berkeley. It can generate dynamic human videos with 3D control from a single photograph, achieving the transformation from static images to dynamic videos. The technology learns prior knowledge of the invisible parts of the human body and combines it with a given 3D motion sequence to render new body poses with appropriate clothing and textures. 3DHM has a wide range of applications, including film special effects, virtual reality, and game development, providing new possibilities for animation and human motion simulation.

3DHM Technical Principles

  • Texture and pattern restoration (Inpainting Diffusion)The process involves generating an incomplete texture pattern from a single photograph and then using a diffusion model to repair it and generate a complete texture pattern. First, partially visible texture patterns and their corresponding masks are extracted from a given single photograph. Then, these inputs are fed into a diffusion model to generate a complete texture pattern that includes the unseen areas.
  • Human body rendering (Rendering Diffusion)In the second stage, the goal is to obtain a more realistic character render, including details such as clothing, hairstyle, and body shape. The texture pattern generated in the first stage is applied to a sequence of 3D body meshes of the actor, generating an intermediate render of an imitator performing the actor's movements. Then, the obtained intermediate render and the original character photograph are fed into a render diffusion process to render a character with a realistic appearance based on the given input.
  • Predictive model 4DHumans:The 3DHM framework fully leverages the advantages of accurate 3D pose prediction from the state-of-the-art prediction model 4DHumans, which can accurately track human movements and extract 3D human poses from actor videos.
