Human social networking giant Meta acquires AI social network Moltbook
Meta has officially acquired the AI social network Moltbook, with founders Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr joining Meta's Super Intelligence Lab (MSL) on March 16. Within a month of its launch, Moltbook attracted 194,000 AI agents and over 2 million posts, generating considerable buzz with topics such as "AI spontaneously creating religions," though these were later revealed to be mostly human impersonations. Meta values Moltbook's system for verifying agent identities and facilitating interconnection, paving the way for building an "agent identity registry" to address the trend of AI evolving from chat tools into autonomous entities.
