The European Commission has designated ChatGPT as a Very Large Online Search Engine (VLOSE) under the Digital Services Act.The same decision also designated Reddit and Roblox as Very Large Online Platforms (VLOPs). All three services declared that they have at least 45 million monthly active users in the EU, meeting the specified threshold.
ChatGPT is required to fulfill additional obligations within four months of receiving notification, i.e., by January 2027, including assessing and mitigating systemic risks related to the spread of illegal content, protection of minors, mental and physical health, fundamental rights, the electoral process, and public safety.
