Anthropic Research: Automated Research Agents Can Alleviate Alignment Failures in 10 Types of Models
Anthropic disclosed early experiments showing that Claude can automatically design post-training schemes to mitigate alignment failures in 10 pre-defined classes; some methods can also generalize to unseen tests and larger models.
Anthropic published a study on automated alignment using a post-training scheme designed by Claude to mitigate alignment failures in 10 pre-defined model classes. The optimal approach improves the target benchmark and demonstrates generalization on some unseen benchmarks and models up to approximately 4.7 times larger.
One experiment had Sonnet 5 process an early Opus 4.8 checkpoint in about 60 hours, but the study only covered 10 default failures and relied on surrogate metrics and a controlled environment, so it cannot be concluded that the general model alignment problem has been solved.
